Martyn Henderson

Martyn Henderson joined The Business Advisory Group in 2008 as a Senior Manager. Prior to this he had worked at two large firms for over 10 years. In 2011 he was promoted to Associate Director before becoming a shareholder in 2012 and then being appointed Director in April 2015.

Martyn has worked alongside a wide range of clients and has extensive experience in providing taxation and business advice to clients across many industries.

A large part of his time is spent assisting clients with their regular reporting needs which can involve strategic planning, budgeting, monthly financial reporting, taxation and business advice. He believes that whilst getting the numbers right is important, interpreting them and allowing clients to understand them is key. Only then can clients make informed and timely business decisions.

Martyn enjoys working closely with clients and is driven by seeing them achieve their goals.

Outside of work, Martyn can generally be found either at the gym or planning his next travels.

Brendan Lewis

Senior Manager

Brendan Lewis started as an accountant at a mid-tier firm in sunny Hawkes Bay over 12 years ago. Brendan joined the Business Advisory Group in 2019 as a Senior Manager after working at a large firm in Auckland. Prior experience has also included heading up the accounting team for a New Zealand business that operated across five countries. 

Brendan has worked with a wide range of clients with businesses and investments. Particular experience includes working with groups that have a large number of entities, clients with significant commercial property investments and businesses in the accommodation sector including hotels.

Outside of the office Brendan enjoys food, travel and walks.

Karen Au

Senior Manager

Karen is a Senior Manager at The Business Advisory Group. Prior to joining the team, she had over 12 years’ experience working with KPMG and 2 large professional firms in New Zealand, providing assistance with accounting and tax requirements, as well as strategy, leadership and business development advice.

She has considerable experience working with both private and public sectors. This include overseeing outsourced finance functions and providing assistance with financial and management accounting requirements according to various stakeholder needs and financial reporting standards. Karen has particular interests in high net worth, international business, manufacturing and wholesale/distributing industries. 

Drawing on her multilingual and cross-cultural skills, and a people person with passion in leadership and culture, Karen is an accredited Team Management Services® consultant and enjoys working with management teams to understand their team and staff dynamics to improve individual, team and organisational performance.

Outside of the office, Karen enjoys music, travelling, and trying out new cuisines.

Susan Staples

Manager

Susan joined The Business Advisory Group in 2018. Originally from South Africa, she immigrated to New Zealand in 2015 where she worked as a Manager in a mid-tier accounting firm in Auckland. 

Susan has experience in business advisory, financial accounting and taxation and is a Xero Certified Advisor. She has a particular interest in assisting clients with the set up and efficient implementation of Xero as well as Xero training. 

Outside of the office, Susan enjoys spending time with family, reading and travelling.

Jack Yeung

Manager

Jack Yeung joined The Business Advisory Group in 2018 as Manager. Jack brings with him 7 years of accounting expertise gained from multiple mid-tier professional practices in the Auckland CBD. 

Experienced as Xero team leader for a top 10 accounting firm, Jack is passionate about innovative accounting technologies and the positive influence it brings to New Zealand’s businesses. He has particular interest in helping clients organise their day to day accounting needs so they can spend more time focusing on their business and with family.

Brian Park

Brian joined The Business Advisory Group Limited in 2017. He is a full member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

He has experience in business advisory, financial accounting and taxation. He worked with clients of all sizes and across wide range of different industries.

Brian enjoys working closely with the clients and his goal is to understand their needs and pain points to provide solutions and become their trusted advisor.

Outside of work, Brian enjoys spending time with family, catching up with friends and watching sports.

Shaleen Rashad

Assistant Manager

After completing Masters in Accounting, Shaleen started her accounting career in a mid-tier professional services firm in New Zealand. She is a full member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and joined The Business Advisory Group in 2018 as a Senior Accountant. She has experience in providing business advice and tax compliance services to small and medium size businesses across a broad range of industries and services. Her particular interest areas are preparing accounts for investment portfolios and providing accounting assistance to clients setting up new businesses, as well as supplying clients with timely information for them to make informed decisions. She helps a range of clients simplify their accounting and provides Xero training.

In her spare time she relishes going to the gym and loves spending time with family and friends.

Katherine Platt

Practice Manager

Katherine joined TBAG in May 2008 and is responsible for the administration of our Taxation Register and all Companies Office functions, looking after the day to day running of our office.

Before joining The Business Advisory Group, Katherine worked for ten years as the Professional Development Officer for the National Institute of Accountants.

Katherine has previously worked in the United Kingdom and lived for a number of years in the Republic of Ireland where she worked in one of the top three law firms in Dublin as the Personal Assistant for a Senior Partner.

During her career, Katherine has developed skills essential when working within high profile and demanding job environments, including attention to detail and the ability to manage a range of different tasks to meet deadlines.

In her free time, she enjoys reading (especially mystery novels), catching up with friends and sleeping in!

Kenneth Leong

Consultant

Kenneth arrived in New Zealand as an international student in the mid 1990s. Upon graduation, he worked as a corporate finance specialist at Deloitte and Macquarie, where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, corporate advisory and capital raising projects.  With over 20 years’ experience in international business and corporate finance, he is now director-shareholder in a number of private businesses across multiple sectors including education, retail, investments, health technology and transportation.  He is co-founder / director of the award-winning face mask business MEO, with offices in Auckland and Xiamen.  As a Consultant at The Business Advisory Group, he continues to advise senior business people and high net worth investors, utilising his multi-lingual and business development skills to facilitate business across cultures. He is particularly adept at working with clients to overcome difficult situations, navigating chaos and providing clarity. Immediately prior to joining TBAG, Kenneth spent 5 years as Principal responsible for Asia Business at a large professional services firm.

He is also the Chairman of ASEAN New Zealand Business Council (since 2017) and a Trustee of the Auckland Foundation (since 2016).

Outside of work, Kenneth can be found spending time with his family at his lifestyle block or exploring interesting places around New Zealand or abroad.
